 Today in class we talked about hbcu which stands for historically black colleges and universities. There are currently 101 hbcus in American and half are public and half is private. Spelman college is the oldest private hbcu for women. Martin Luther King Jr. went to Morehouse college at the age of 15 and majored in sociology. Kamala Harris went to Howard University.

 Today we read letters 53-60 and it was about Nettie writing letters to Celie. Celie thought Nettie was dead because she hasn’t heard from her but all along she’s in Africa. Nettie was writing her letters to celie but mr was hiding them from her. Nettie is in Africa with celie’s son and daughter.

 Today we read an article about getting your license at 16. Then we drew pictures about outer comprehension about the article. I’m 16 years old and hope to get my license and car before my senior year. It seems like the process is moving slow so hopefully I can reach my goal when I want to. 

 We read and article and this was the question I was given

 Today we took a quiz on letters 41-45 on the color purple and I failed. Then we did our one pager, I picked letter 42 when squeak began singing about the color of her skin. In the letter before she finally stood up for herself and claimed that her name is mary agnues.

 Today we did a bell ringer and it took up the whole class period. It basically talked about like how full is your glass and have I ever been I leader. I never been a leader because I never had the opportunity to lead anyone. At the end of class we started on our one pager for the color purple.

 Dear God, Never would of thought of the day that this will happen to me, especially by family. Dress all ripped up, one shoe missing, hat crooked. Harpo mad and want to kill every white person he see but that’s not possible. I said what they wanted me to say, I say Sofia not being punish enough in that jail and she worry about being a white woman maid. He took my hat off, told me to undo my dress. I start to wonder if Harpo love me for me or just my color. He called me by Squeak. I stood up and said “ My name Mary Agnes. I went to get Sofia out of jail and it’s been six months now. Everyone call me by yellow but I wonder if the roles were reversed and if I say “black girl” then… nvm, forget it.
